In 2021, I moved to Laredo, TX to launch and manage the campaign of Jessica Cisneros in TX-28. Jessica is a human rights attorney who used her national platform to center the fight for Medicare for All and reproductive freedom during her challenge of the last anti-choice Democrat in the House.
Together, we recruited, trained and managed a diverse full-time staff, a majority of whom were local to South Texas. In this role, I am most proud of helping to build and harness the power of a wide-ranging coalition of local and national stakeholders, including Justice Democrats, Sunrise Movement, Working Families Party, local and national labor unions and high profile elected officials like Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
I also led the fundraising strategy that leveraged rapid response moments like when our opponent got raided by the FBI or when Elizabeth Warren asking MSNBC viewers who were worried about the future of Roe to give to Jessica's campaign to defeat Henry Cuellar into huge grassroots fundraising hauls (even raising over $1M in one day).
Over the course of the primary and runoff elections, I directed a budget of $6M and lead the campaign’s bilingual targeted voter contact plan, which included tv, mail, digital and field programs that helped lead to unprecedented turnout for the TX-28 runoff election. It was heartbreaking, but after a recount we lost by less than 300 votes.
